History

Headquartered in Columbia, Maryland, Manekin Brokerage operates brokerage offices in Columbia, Baltimore City (where the company began in 1946) and in southern Maryland – a new and growing target marketplace. Brokerage services were at the historic start of Manekin’s practice in commercial real estate which has evolved into the full service approach practiced today. Market knowledge and market strength – generated from the ground up in growing regional submarkets - has enabled the Brokerage division to build a professional, results-driven practice.

Manekin takes great pride in an outstanding reputation and record of achievement, celebrating more than 60 years of commercial real estate success. Beginning with our original headquarters in Baltimore, Manekin played a central role in the redevelopment of the city’s Central Business District, and allowed the firm to demonstrate a high level of success in filling the buildings with quality tenants.

Subsequently, Manekin developed a strategic business presence in Howard County, as one of the first real estate developers to work with the Rouse Company and its financial partners when the planned community of Columbia, Maryland was in its evolutionary stages. Development and leasing worked together to forge relationships within the business community that exists to this day.

Farsighted in service expansion and land development along the I-270 corridor in Frederick, Manekin constructed and leased some of the largest corporate headquarters and campuses in an area that has become the center for Maryland’s technology development and defense industry efforts. Manekin pioneered dynamic leasing in projects that captured the blue chip tenant base typical of this submarket.

That strategic vision was again apparent in Harford and Cecil Counties, with on-going commercial and residential land development projects between the I-95 and Rt. 40 corridors, which are well positioned for BRAC (Base Relocation and Closure) and defense-related development. The southern anchor of this growth corridor is located in Charles and Saint Mary’s Counties, which represent dynamic future markets for Manekin and its clients. Manekin has evidenced significant early success in day-to-day leasing in these markets.
